There's no doubt that face-to-face communication is the most effective method for most people. Why? Because of its two-way nature. It's about dialogue. Listeners are not passive participants. When
someone talks to us, we send a continuous stream of responses back to them. Some are verbal, but many/most are not. These responses have the power to actually change the message being disseminated
by the talker. What's more, they have the power to change how other listeners' interpret that message. (Similarly, other listeners have the power to change your interpretation.) |

The first two weeks of November saw me traveling from the west coast to New York, and back to the coast before heading down to Las Vegas. I had the privilege of attending two of the most important annual search and
Internet marketing conferences, ad:Tech NYC and Pubcon Las Vegas. As a writer in this space, my goal was to try to speak with as many people as possible in order to figure out where the industry is going in the coming
years. Road-weary and exhausted as I am, I feel enlightened and exhilarated. The state of search marketing is stronger than ever. It is however, going to change radically in the coming year. |

The phrase Social Media Optimization, (SMO), has quickly become an industry
buzzword in search marketing circles. The term refers to the practice of crafting,
altering or augmenting profiles, images, movies and other files to be easily found
and well shared in social media applications such as 43Things.com, MySpace,
Tribe.net or Flickr, and by interested parties throughout the blogosphere. |

Social networks are getting a lot of attention these days including Wikipedia, del.icio.us and MySpace. Along with the buzz, these sites are also generating a lot of traffïc! How can you integrate links for these types of social network
sites into your search engine marketing program? While there are an increasing number of social networks, this article will stick to the above as they are kings of their domains so to speak.
I recently had the opportuníty to attend Search Engine Strategies in New York City this past February, 2006. While attending a session in regards to community marketing tactics using both Wikipedia and tagging, the panel asked
the audience, "Who here knows what Wikipedia and tagging are?" - less than half the room raised their hands. |

SMO, or Social Media Optimization, helps build website traffic by using social media based websites. The dawning of web 2.0 has seen many different social media websites crop
up in an equally large number of different guises. Content sharing, social bookmarking, and collaborative websites form the basis of this initiative and it is these types of website that
you need to use in order to leverage the power of the social web. |
